From Mind-shift to Mindshare - A Gamified Implementation of Quality Online Course Design Principles
Are you thinking of transformation? Join us as we move from mind-shift to mind-share in a gamified approach to online course quality. Join a team, move through the game, and wow your opponents with how instructional planning and execution can transform course design.
Relevance: Proponents of quality course design agree on several pillars or themes foundational to quality course design some of which were not top of mind during the era of emergency remote instruction. To get the train back onto the rails, attendees will deconstruct quality principles by engaging in an adaptation of the Ticket-To-Ride game. These gameplay strategies will weave through design conversations, sprints, and reflective evaluations of instructional design and facilitation practices.
Interactivity Plan: In small groups (triads or quads of instructional designers and instructional faculty), participants will use the “ticket to ride” adaptation to collect cards based on conceptual quality constructs; Effective Instruction, Intentional Design, Inclusive and Accessible, Steered by the Learner, Active, Interactive, and Engaging. As they collect the tickets, they will identify and discuss practical strategies for implementing the constructs on the quality continuum. Participants will select and match pre-prepared tickets that identify the strategic direction for the quality construct listed at the "stations" by decoding messages and applying principles from their practice.
Takeaway: Session participants will share practical examples for the selected areas of quality course design that encourage student success.
