Extended Abstract

With student demand for online courses rising each year, institutions are presented with the challenge of harmonizing the delivery of desired online offerings while upholding the exceptional quality synonymous with their on-campus programs. Concerns about quality, accessibility, safety, and cost continue to create barriers to embracing online learning in STEM programs. Join Angela Cardinale, Online Education Coordinator for Chaffey College, and Dr. Caitlin Runne-Janczy, PhD, Chief Academic Officer at Science Interactive, to challenge misconceptions, provide actionable insights, and equip you with the knowledge to confidently lead your institution toward expanding online science education programs.

Through in-depth discussions and practical examples, we'll also guide you through addressing the challenges frequently encountered with expanding programs online. For example, how to identify whether majors and non-major's courses can be offered effectively online, how to plan for student costs, and how to continue to shift perceptions on campus. From the initial offering of individual courses into the online space to a comprehensive migration of entire academic programs, this session offers an exploration into online cross-collaborative instructional design, infusing interactivity, and engagement into your virtual lab programs, crafting online experiences that mirror the caliber of in-person courses, and learning to harness technology for enriching pedagogical outcomes.
