Enough talk, let’s make something! In this session you and your crew will prototype real solutions addressing the impacts of Artificial Intelligence, DEI, and Online Belonging. No need to worry if you missed Innovation Crew Connect 1! All you need is to bring your creativity, insights, and the desires to work with the spirit of play as you and your crew bring to life the solutions proposed during Innovation Crew Connect 1.

Presenters

Lead Presenter: T. Adam Baldry, Pima Community College

Adam Baldry is an Instructional Technologist at Pima Community College. He holds an MA in East Asian Studies and is currently a Higher Education graduate student at the University of Arizona. Adam uses his 10+ years of in-person and online teaching experience to inform his approach to EdTech management and innovation. Taking a human-centered design thinking approach to EdTech implementation, Adam enjoys working with others to apply innovative tech solutions to pedagogical stumbling blocks. As a trained humanist, Asianist, technologist and teacher, he seeks to incorporate simplicity, humanity and mindfulness into his work.

Co-presenter: Catherine Manly, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Catherine A. Manly is Assistant Professor of Higher Education–Data Analytics for Fairleigh Dickinson University’s online Ed.D. program. She earned her Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and did postdoctoral research with the City University of New York’s Equity Through Education Research Group. Her research addresses how flexibility of educational design and delivery can address under-acknowledged needs of students traditionally underserved by higher education. She brings a social justice lens to quantitative investigation of transformational innovation, with particular interest in changes possible because of online and educational technologies. Her work often utilizes aggregated institutional data ('big' for education), including through analytics. She was formerly Director of Educational Technology and Distance Learning at Manchester Community College and worked in Information Technology at Amherst College. She is an alumna of the Online Learning Consortium’s Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Learning (IELOL) and EDUCAUSE/CLIR’s Leading Change Institute.

Extended Abstract

Find your Innovation Crew and embark on an exciting journey to address the industry-wide impacts of Artificial Intelligence, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and Online Belonging. The Innovation Crew sessions on each of these three topics are connected, but feel free to participate in however many your schedule allows. In Session One (Ideation), you’ll work together with your crews to brainstorm and ideate around one of these critical challenges (you will choose which topic conversation to join when you arrive). Your unique perspectives and insights will play a vital role in shaping innovative solutions. Session Two (Prototyping) is where ideas begin to come to life as you and your crew prototype real solutions to these challenges. Your creativity will be our fuel as we bring to life the ideas that emerged during the initial session. It will be a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, play with different possibilities, and create tangible solutions. In Session Three (Implementation), you’ll work collaboratively with your crew to make plans for implementing your prototypes in the real world by deciding how you’ll continue your work together after the conference. We value every contribution, whether you can attend all three sessions, or just one or two.
