Using the OLC OSCQR Scorecard to Improve Course Design

Concurrent Session 3

Session Materials

Brief Abstract

At Western Carolina University we have built in the OCQS Scorecard into the Online Course Design Institute (OCDI). We have used the OSCQR scorecard in two offerings of OCDI and will share the scorecard results, feedback from the instructor/designers, and lessons learned from implementing the scorecard at this level.

Extended Abstract

As instructional designers and course developers at our institution, we decided to use OLC's OSQCR Scorecard not only in the review of online courses but also built into the Online Course Design Institute (OCDI). We introduce the scorecard as a foundational, structural tool to create quality online courses, but have also indicated in the course we use the facilitate the institute, where we have demonstrated how to meet the criteria. This fits well into the backwards design process we use during the institute. Additionally, we ask the instructor/designers to review their course at the end of the institute.  We also provide the Instructional Designer review. We have used the OSCQR scorecard in two offerings of OCDI and will share the scorecard results, feedback from the instructor/designers, and lessons learned from implementing the scorecard at this level.
